JELD-WEN Glass is able to offer heat soak testing.
This is a destructive test, designed to detect the presence of nickel sulphide in toughened glass and reduce the risk of spontaneous breakage. This only occurs with toughened glass and the outcome can be particularly dangerous, especially in applications such as overhead structures and high rise buildings.
Toughened glass is reheated to an elevated temperature that accelerates the expansion in the nickel sulphide inclusions. This increases the probability that, if inclusions exist in the glass, the glass will break in the heat soak test rather than insitu.
